E Wolff & Son and Arthur Johnson Merge

If you are a reader of my blog, or indeed, even have a general interest in British made pencils, you’ll be aware that the Royal Sovereign Pencil Co. Ltd. was formed out of a merger between E. Wolff & Son Ltd. and Arthur Johnson Ltd. (Arthur Johnson Ltd. forming out of the ashes of B. S. Cohen Ltd.).

In September 1920, E. Wolff & Son Ltd. sent out a letter to their stockists to update them of the merger and new company name. A rather nice piece of pencil ephemera and a historical document – hard to believe it survived:

As it happens, Arthur Johnson Ltd. also sent letters to their stockists to let them know of the merger and new company name. Rather amazingly, I happen to have a copy of the September 1920 letter from them too. Again, it’s hard to believe this kind of letter survived.
